Mariupol Drama

“Mariupol Drama” — Ukrainian Testimony on Stage. European Tour 2025.
This fall, a deeply moving Ukrainian theatrical production takes to the stages of Europe. “Mariupol Drama” is not just a play — it is a voice from the ruins, a live testimony from the heart of a besieged city.
Based on the true stories of the actors from the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre in Mariupol — who survived the brutal bombing of their theatre during the Russian siege in March 2022 — this production transforms pain into art, grief into memory, and survival into a call for justice.
Theatre becomes testimony.
Stage becomes resistance.
🔥 About the Play
Mariupol Drama was written by Ukrainian author Oleksandr Havrosh, directed by Yevhen Tyshchuk, with scenography by Emma Zaitseva. The cast features Vira Lebedynska, Matvii Kytrysh, Olena Bila, and Ihor Kytrysh — all of whom lived through the horrors of Mariupol and now speak on behalf of those who cannot.
Produced by the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre, now operating in exile, the play has already captivated international audiences in Europe and North America.
Every scene is rooted in lived experience.
Every word — a recollection.
Every silence — a wound that still bleeds.

🎭 Why It Matters
On March 16, 2022, during the siege of Mariupol, the city’s Drama Theatre — a known shelter for over 1,000 civilians — was destroyed by a Russian airstrike. The word “Children” had been painted outside in giant white letters. Still, the theatre was hit.
This performance is a living memorial to that attack.
It stands not only for the victims of Mariupol, but for every civilian whose voice was silenced.
To attend “Mariupol Drama” is to bear witness. To remember. To share.
🗣 What the audience says:
